Box Score 2 Columbus, Ga. - DePauw slipped to 2-4 on the season after dropping its first two games at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic. The Tigers lost to Belhaven, 4-1, before Virginia Wesleyan topped DePauw, 5-4.
In the Belhaven game, DePauw scored its only run of the game in the first, while Belhaven evened the count in the fifth and scored a pair of unearned runs in the sixth before adding an insurance run in the seventh.
Cami Henry struck out 10 in dropping to 2-3, while Dallas Blaker moved to 1-0. Belhaven improved to 7-1 with the victory.
Virginia Wesleyan's Caitlin Myers lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh which scored Ariana Rolle with the game-winning run.
DePauw took a 2-0 lead in the second when Drew Bratcher reached on an error that allowed two runners to score. The Marlins took the lead with three in the fourth and one in the fifth, but the Tigers knotted the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh with a two-out double that scored Kelsey Bernhard and Kate Geary. Rolle tripled with one out in the bottom of the seven and scored when Myers flied out to center.
Bernhard and Geary each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Rolle and Julia Sinnett each collected two of Virginia Wesleyan's nine hits.
Henry dropped to 2-4 after striking out 10 in 5 2/3 innings, while Emily Seale improved to 3-1.
DePauw takes on Texas Lutheran tomorrow at 10 a.m. and Alma at Noon.
