Terre-Haute, Ind.- The DePauw men's outdoor track and field team opened its outdoor season with a second-place finish after accumulating 135 points at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational.
The Tigers completed the afternoon with a first-place finish in the 4x100 relay and 12 individual top-three finishes. Taking first in the 4x100 relay with 44.27 was Ayo Laleye, Darren McLaurin, BJ Lomax, and Christian Troupe.
DePauw dominated in the distance events. Michael Ocasek earned second in the 800-meter run (2:03.09) and first in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:59.63. In the 800-meter run, Matt Rowley was just behind Ocasek, finishing in 2:03.54 for third-place. In the 500 meter run, the Tigers' Zane Williams finished first with a time of 15:14.28, followed by Jacob Kissling with a time of 15:19.81 for second. DePauw would take first and second in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with Bailey Scott finishing in 10:03.19 for first, followed by Thomas Brelage with a time of 10:25.25 for second.
In field events, the Tigers' Garrett Elkins finished third in the high jump with a jump of 1.90m, while Daniel Jansen earned third in pole vault with a height of 3.83m. Bennett DeCoursey would go on to place in the top three in all three of his events, first in discus throw (45.95m), second in shot put (12.80m), and third in hammer throw (41.53m).
The Tigers' next meet will be a two-day invite at WashU on Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2.
