Springfield, Ohio- The DePauw men's track and field team is tied for first with Denison at 34 points apiece, after the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The Tigers' distance medley relay of Jack Rutstein, Daniel Jansen, Callaway Bird, and Michael Ocasek not only took first with a time of 10:18.01 but also broke the previous NCAC record of 10:19.12, which stood for ten years by Wabash.
DePauw tallied five more top-ten finishes throughout the first day of competition. Carson Watson finished second in long jump with a final jump of 6.55m, while Bennett DeCoursey took fourth-place in shot put (14.23m). The remaining three top-ten finishers raced in the men's 5,000-meter run, Jacob Kissling finished in 15:18.66 to take fifth-place, followed by Matt Rowley in sixth-place (15:19.93) and Matt Vennemann with a time of 15:35.70, rounded out the top-ten finishers, with a ninth-place finish.
Bailey Scott and Bird qualified for Saturday's 800-meter finals as Scott placed third in the prelims (1:58.05) and Bird finished fifth (1:58.22).
Day two of the Championships wraps up on Saturday, with the first events starting at 10 am EST.
