Tigers' Season Comes to an End Against Wooster; Fenlon Walks the Sidelines for the Final Time

Crawfordsville, Ind. - Third-seed Wooster shot 53.8 percent from the field and outscored DePauw from the free throw line, 13-3, on the way to a 75-59 win in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal game. DePauw finished its season at 11-14, while Wooster moved to 19-8 and advanced to tomorrow's championship game against host Wabash.

The Tigers trailed by just one at 25-24 with 4:01 left in the first half, but the Fighting Scots scored the next seven to expand the lead to 32-24 with 1:45 left in the half. The Fighting Scots pushed the lead to nine before DePauw's Nolan Niego hit a late three to cut the Wooster halftime lead to 36-30.

Wooster started to pull away and a 20-6 run made it 62-42 with 9:15 remaining. DePauw closed to within 11 in the final two minutes but that was as close as it would get.

Elijah Hales led the Tigers with 13 points, while Camden Brown added 11 and Grant Niego 10. RJ Powell snagged a career-high five rebounds and Grant Gohmann totaled three assists.

Brandon Styers led Wooster with 19 points with Elijah Meredith chipping in 18. Turner Kurt added 11 and Nick Everett 10 along with a team-high seven rebounds. Jamir Billings dished out five assists in the win.

The Tigers shot 40 percent from the floor and Wooster outrebounded DePauw, 33-29.

The game marked the final for DePauw head coach Bill Fenlon who directed the Tigers for 30 seasons and a total of 37 as a collegiate head coach with previous stops at Sewanee, Rose-Hulman and Southwestern (Texas). He finished his DePauw career as the winningest coach in program history with a 480-296 record. In 37 seasons as a collegiate head coach he is 587-365 and is the fourth winningest active coach in Division III.
