Tigers Split a Pair of One-Run Games

Hoover, Ala. - Top-ranked DePauw suffered its second-straight walkoff loss in today's first game, but came back for a win in the second game to finish 2-2 for the weekend.

In the opener against 13th-ranked Mount St. Joseph, the Tigers and Lions battled through six scoreless innings before DePauw broke through in the seventh. Paige Price singled with two outs and moved to third when Grace Smith doubled. Drew Bratcher followed with a single that scored Price.

In the bottom of the seventh, Elizabeth Ivers led off by being hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Rachel Gabbard then delivered a two-out single that brought home pinch-runner Alyssa Witmer. Kaitlin Leslie entered as a pinch-runner for Gabbard and scored the game-winning run on Kaci Finchum's double.

Price and Smith each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while three different Lions collected one each.

Cami Henry dropped to 1-2 after striking out eight. Kamryn McCool picked up the win.

In the afternoon game against fifth-ranked Birmingham-Southern, DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the first as Smith tripled home Riley Heim. Bratcher led off the second with a homer to push the Tigers' lead to 2-0. 

The Panthers countered in the bottom of the second as Izzy Berkopec doubled with two outs and scored on the throw after Alyssa Fowler's bunt single.

DePauw expanded the lead to 4-1 in the seventh on Caleigh Cramer's ground out that scored Kelsey Bernhard and Price's base hit that brought home Kate Geary.

The Panthers scored a pair in the seventh, but the Tigers shut down the rally for the win.

Smith, Price and Bratcher each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Kailey Waters had three of Birmingham-Southern's eight hits with Leah Wood and Berkopec each adding two.

Cami Henry improved to 2-2 with the win, while Hailee Bryan dropped to 2-1.

The Tigers return to action on March 4-6 at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic.
