Box Score 2 Hoover, Ala. - DePauw opened the 2022 season with a 9-4 win over LeTourneau before falling to Huntingdon by a 4-3 score.
In the season opener, DePauw scored a pair in the bottom of the first as Kelsey Bernhard led off with a single and stole second before Grace Smith reached on an error that allowed Bernhard to score. Page Price's grounder plated Smith to make it 2-0.
LeTourneau took the lead with a single run in the second and two in the fourth, but DePauw put up five in the bottom of the fourth. Cami Henry delivered a three-run homer, while Smith had an RBI single and Price a run-scoring double. Alyssa Anderson's fifth-inning single scored Bernhard and Jade Mejia Wick to make it 9-3. LeTourneau added one more in the seventh.
Henry had two of DePauw's 10 hits, while Macy Clevenger and Lauren Wilking each had two of LeTourneau's six hits. Henry picked up the win in the circle with Bailey Richey taking the loss.
In the Huntingdon game, the Hawks scored one each in the first two innings before DePauw got on the board in the fifth when Goose Moore singled home Smith. The Tigers evened the score in the sixth on Annika Garwood's solo homer.
Huntingdon regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Bailey Murphy doubled home Emma Spurlin. Bernhard's seventh-inning, two-out double scored Smith and kept the Tigers alive, but Anna Vaughn drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh to score Nataie Ritchey with the game-winning run.
Bernhard, Garwood and Smith each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while Annie Nolan, Nevaeh McIntyre and Brooke Stefankiewicz each had two of the Hawks' 10 hits. Henry took the loss, while Katelyn Holcomb was the winning pitcher.
DePauw returns to action tomorrow with an 11 a.m. CST game against Mount St. Joseph and a 4 p.m. CST contest against Birmingham-Southern.
