Tigers Fall 70-63 to Battling Bishops

Box Score

Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw men's basketball team came up short in its 70-63 home loss to Ohio Wesleyan.

In the first half, the Tigers held the Battling Bishops to 4 of 17 from behind the arc and pulled down 15 defensive rebounds to its 10, giving DePauw a 30-25 lead over Ohio Wesleyan heading into halftime.

At the end of the first half, Nick Wissel led the team with 10 points while gathering four of his seven total rebounds. Though the Tigers forced the Battling Bishops to commit seven turnovers in half-court play, Ohio Wesleyan outscored DePauw in points from turnovers, in the paint, and off the bench.

The Battling Bishops in the second half came out with energy and took a 33-31 lead after four minutes of play. Both teams would trade baskets throughout the first ten minutes of play leading to three lead changes and three ties; however, Ohio Wesleyan found its stride in the nine-minute mark, extending its lead by seven points.

With just under two minutes left in regulation, a timely free throw by Nolan Niego put the Tigers within five of the Battling Bishops. Unfortunately for DePauw, the transition offense Ohio Wesleyan's Jack Clement and David Rice created off of its defensive stops was too much to navigate in the final minute of play.

The Tigers shot 35% from the field and had 15 turnovers throughout regulation. Though four of its five starters finished the game in double digits, DePauw's bench was outscored 14 to 5 in the second half.

DePauw moves to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in NCAC play. The Tigers' next matchup is on the road against Wabash College on Wednesday, January 19. Game time is set for 7 pm EST.
