Box Score Greencastle, Ind.: The DePauw men's soccer team kept its win streak alive with a 3-2 victory over the Franklin College Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies struck first with a flicked-in goal by Franklin forward Jon Moore in the 23rd minute. Though this was the first time the Tigers had played down in three games, DePauw stayed poised and forced the Grizzlies backline to defend four corners and a total of seven shots throughout the first half.
With just three minutes left before the half, a throw-in by Flynn Sheehan next to the Franklin bench found Sam Thiel just outside of the Grizzlies box. Thiel gathered the pass from Sheehan, turned, and chipped the ball to Ben Weidner for the tying goal just before the half.
The Tigers' kept their momentum from the first half goal by recording its second goal in the 47th minute. Weidner would tally his first of two assists by crossing the ball to Joel Thompkins, giving DePauw the 2-1 advantage.
Not going away easily, the Grizzlies' Moore responded with his second goal of the night, tying the game in the 67th minute.
Looking to finish this physical matchup between Franklin and DePauw, sophomore forwards Weidner and Thiel found each other again with just 18 minutes left in regulation to score the game-winning goal.
DePauw is back at home on Sunday, September 12, to face Olivet College just after the women's 12 pm matchup is completed. The men's soccer match is set to start at 2:30 pm EDT.
