Box Score Memphis, Tenn.- The DePauw women's soccer team fell to the No. 5 Washington University (Mo.) Bears, 1-4, on the second day of the Women's Soccer Challenge Tournament.
In the first half, the Tigers were consistently on the defensive against an aggressive Bears offense. Though WashU outshot the DePauw 12 to 1 and tallied eight corners in the half, the Tigers found the back of the net first.
Gathering a ball front and center in the goalie box, Whitney Wells squared up and scored to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
DePauw held off WashU for most of the first half, but the Bears' offense kept getting off shots and eventually tied the game with 10 minutes left in the half.
In the second half, WashU turned up the pressure in the midfield, forcing DePauw to maneuver through congestion to get into its scoring half.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Bears' pressure led to three goals in the second half, on the other end giving WashU a commanding lead with time quickly expiring.
The Tigers remain on the road and face Rose-Hulman on Wednesday, September 22, at 7:30 pm.
