Box Score Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw men's soccer team closed out Family weekend with a 1-0 win over the Grinnell College Pioneers.
The Pioneers pushed the first half's pace, forcing the DePauw backline to converge on deep plays in the box, getting off six shots to the Tigers two.
With the game tied at zero at the start of the second half, the game's momentum swung in DePauw's direction. The Tigers outshot the Pioneers 10 to 4 in the second half, ultimately resulting in the game-winning shot by Ben Weidner, who headed a rocket by James Maguire in the 68th minute.
DePauw held onto its lead, allowing Grinnell just one corner and forcing four fouls throughout the second half of regulation.
DePauw improves to 6-2 overall and is on the road facing Trine on September 21st at 7 pm EDT.
Note: This matchup between the Tigers and the Pioneers was a particularly special Family Weekend event. The two head coaches, Brad Hauter ('87) and Brian Jawkorski ('89), are former teammates, and Hauter also coaches multiple former teammates' sons, who were also in attendance.
