DePauw Rallies to Beat Rose-Hulman and Move to 5-2

Greencastle, Ind. - After dropping the opening set to visiting Rose-Hulman, the Tigers came back to win the next three for a 3-1 (19-25, 30-28, 25-17, 25-20) win over the Fightin' Engineers. DePauw moved to 5-2, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 4-4.

The Engineers never trailed in the opening set on the way to a 25-19 win. The second set featured 12 ties and eight lead changes with the Tigers holding a 22-19 before the guests reached set point at 24-23. The Tigers fought off four set points before Katie Gansle wrapped up the set with a pair of kills and a 30-28 victory.

The third set was another tight one with eight ties and four lead changes, but DePauw finished the with a 10-4 run to win, 25-17. The Tigers carried that momentum into the fourth set as they scored the first seven points. The Engineers scored six straight later in the set to take a 13-12 advantage. They extended that lead to as many as three points at 16-13. The set was tied 19-19 before DePauw scored six straight to take control and win the match.

DePauw outhit Rose-Hulman, .199-.108 with each team totaling 51 kills. Gansle led the Tigers with 15 kills and Grace Filbrun totaled 23 assists, while Elizabeth Canon had 18 kills for Rose-Hulman with Jillian Gregg leading with 29 assists.

Jenna Purichia led DePauw with three of its six service aces, while Claudia Rowan and Sophia Koop each had two of the Engineers' eight aces.

Purichia paced DePauw with 28 digs with Gansle and Lauren Ridgway finishing with five total blocks apiece. Allie Fults led Rose-Hulman with three total blocks.

DePauw faces Illinois College on Friday, September 17, in a 7:30 p.m. CDT match at Millikin University.
