Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw blanked Franklin, 3-0, in Neal Fieldhouse in the opening match of the 2021 season for both teams.
In the opening set, DePauw trailed briefly before gaining as much as a 13-6 lead. Franklin battled back to take a 20-19 advantage, but the Tigers outscored the guests 6-3 down the stretch for a 25-23 victory.
The Tigers trailed the Grizzlies, 13-9, in the second set but put together a 6-1 run to take the lead for good on the way to a 25-19 win. Franklin scored the first six points of the third set before DePauw started to chip away and tied the set at 7-7. The Grizzlies scored the next two for a 9-7 lead, but DePauw never trailed after scoring five straight points at the beginning of a 13-2 stretch and a 25-20 third-set win.
Elise Monroe had eight of DePauw's 28 kills and Grace Filbrun had eight of the Tigers' 24 assists. Miranda Wilson paced Franklin with 10 kills and Billie Jarrett led with 32 of the team's 40 saves. DePauw outhit the Grizzlies, .125-.051.
Katie Gansle led DePauw with three service aces, while Jenna Purichia had 14 digs. DePauw had 18 block assists paced by Lauren Ridgway's six. Wilson led Franklin with 15 digs and Chole Holder had three block assists.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, September 4, when it hosts Anderson at 11 a.m. and Defiance at 3 p.m.
