Box Score 2 Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw University volleyball team fell to the Greenville University Panthers in four sets ( 25-22, 24-26, 25-13, 25-15) in its second home match of the 2021 spring season.
In set one of the Tigers stayed within striking distance to the Panthers, tying the set five times and finishing the set with a total of 19 kills to Greenville's 13. The Panthers, however, managed to capitalize on some late DePauw errors to take the set 25-22.
Down a set, the Tigers opened the second set with a 6-0 run. Despite nine ties and four lead changes, DePauw kept Greenville at bay, finishing the set with 19 kills and an attacking percentage of .326, winning the set 26-24.
With the match tied at a set apiece, the two teams traded points early in the third set, with the Panthers eventually pulling away, putting up seven points to the Tigers three, taking the set 25-13.
In the fourth and final set of the match, DePauw jumped to a 5-3 lead at the top of the set. The Panthers would quickly respond with an 11 point swing in its favor, taking a commanding 14-5 lead. Despite its efforts and getting within seven points, the point deficit was too much to overcome. The Panthers would win the match after winning set four 25-15.
Elise Monroe led DePauw in kills with 18, followed closely by Jessica Levy with 14 of her own. Sarah Herman finished the match with an attacking percentage of .350, while Abbie Staggs led the team with two block assists.
The Tigers' next match is on the road against Kenyon on Sunday, April 11, at 11 am.
