Box Score 2 Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw University volleyball team came up short after losing to Illinois College 3-2 (25-14, 27-25, 25-21, 25-15, 15-12) in its first home match of the 2021 spring season.
In set one of the match, the Tigers recorded ten kills and forced the Lady Blues to commit nine errors, resulting in a commanding 25-14 win to start the match.
Set two was a back and forth battle, with 11 ties and four lead changes. Though DePauw finished the set with 13 kills, Illinois College had 13 kills of its own and came out of the set with two fewer errors, winning the set 27-25 and tying the match with one apiece.
The Tigers would take set three, 25-21, posting its best attacking percentage of the afternoon .303, committing just two errors and tallying 12 kills.
With DePauw up two sets to one, the Lady Blues extended the match to a fifth set after taking the fourth set, 25-15.
In the match's final set, DePauw and Illinois College fought to maintain the lead, resulting in 11 ties and three lead changes between the two teams. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Lady Blues were able to string consecutive points together in the end, resulting in a final set score of 15-12.
DePauw is back at home on Thursday, April 8, at 6 pm, to face Greenville University.
