Box Score 2 Greencastle, Ind.- The seventh-ranked DePauw softball team swept its series against Denison after blanking the Big Red 5-0 in game one and holding them off 6-3 in game two.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Tigers didn't earn a run until the bottom of the third, where they capitalized on a single by Olivia Jackson and a double by Skylar Barnett that advanced Jackson into scoring position. With just one out and players on second and third, Jackson would slide into home following a wild pitch by Denison's Lexi Knipp, putting DePauw on the board.
Pinch running for Barnett, Abby Pyburn took advantage of her teammate's advancement and moved to third. The Tigers' second run scored off a sacrifice fly to center field by Kaylyn Linder, giving Pyburn plenty of time to run home.
Up 2-0, DePauw gave up just one hit and one left on base in the top of the fourth and countered with another run off one hit.
The game's final two runs came in the sixth after three quick outs in the top of the inning. Following a single by Paige Price, senior catcher Becca St. Germain homered to left field, giving the Tigers a 5-0 lead.
In the final inning of game one, Cami Henry struck out two of the three at-bats, with the other flying out to center field.
The Tigers would finish game one with five runs off of five hits while committing no errors.
Henry improved to 14-0 with the win, while Knipp fell to 1-4.
In game two of the doubleheader the Big Red plated three runs, tying the game in the top of the fourth and putting pressure on DePauw in the fifth.
The Tigers got on the board first off a solo home run by Drew Bratcher with two outs in the bottom of the second.
DePauw would plate its second run after Linder scored off a single up the middle by St. Germain. Denison would counter the Tigers' scoring with two runs of its own, finishing the top of the fourth with three hits, one error, and three left on base.
In the top of the fifth, Riley Magoon relieved Kersten Brayton in the circle and gave up one run, putting Denison in position to tie the ball game. Fortunately for DePauw, a pop-up to second base would end the inning.
Magoon's quick reflexes in the sixth led to an unassisted out by the pitcher, and tag out at first, to end the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers' quick base running helped plate the game's final two runs, despite having two outs.
DePauw finished game two with six stolen bases between five different Tigers and scored six runs off seven hits.
Brayton improved to 4-0 overall, and Magoon tallied her third save of the season, while Denison's Sophia Parpala moved to 4-4 for the season.
