Box Score 2 Greencastle, Ind.- The ninth-ranked DePauw University Tigers swept the Wittenberg University Tigers in its mid-week doubleheader, winning game one 8-2 and securing its nineteenth win of the season, with an 8-to-5 victory in game two.
The DePauw Tigers began the matchup against Wittenberg with pitcher Cami Henry striking out all three at-bats in the top of the first and then plating three runs of its own in the bottom of the first. The first two runs of game one came off a double by Becca St. Germain, which allowed Kaylyn Linder and Olivia Jackson to score with just one out.
DePauw would put up one more run in the inning before holding Wittenberg scoreless in the second inning.
At the top of the third, the Wittenberg Tigers managed to score two runs following a DePauw fielding error to cut the DePauw Tigers lead in half. Up 4-2, DePauw would plate at least one run for the remainder of the game, and by the bottom of the sixth, the DePauw Tigers were up 8-2 and allowed just one hit by Wittenberg across the final four innings.
Henry improved to 11-0, while Katelyn Niswonger moved to 6-3.
Wittenberg got onto the board first in game two, plating two runs in the first two innings off of three hits. Down by two in the bottom of the second, Paige Price, with Abby Pyburn on second, steps up to the plate and launches a home run to tie the game.
With each team going scoreless in the third, Wittenberg goes up by a run in the top of the fourth, off an overthrown ball to first. DePauw, eager to put the game away, answer with six runs of its own across the final three innings to take an 8-to-5 lead.
Leading the DePauw Tigers in stolen bases between both games was Grace Smith with four, followed closely by Jade Mejia Wick with three of her own.
Kerstyn Brayton improved to 4-0, Riley Magoon tallied her second save of the season, and Wittenberg's Mary Britton moved to 3-1.
The ninth-ranked DePauw Tigers take on Wittenberg again on Saturday, April 17, with game one of the doubleheader set for 1 pm on the road.
