Charleston, Ill.: The DePauw University men's swimming and diving team finished its dual meet against Eastern Illinois University with multiple top-three finishes; however, the Tigers ultimately fell to the Panthers 170-83.
DePauw had eight individuals finish in the top three, five of which did so in at least two events.
Opening the meet, the 400-yard medley relay team, made up of Alex Bowling, Robbie Sheffield, Ian Longan, and Jake Frech, finished third with a total time of 3:46.50, just four seconds behind the second-place team.
Following the relay, Seth Fagen would take third in the 100-yard IM (56.43), followed by Tommy Hackley (1:46.46) and Ben Hilfinger(1:47.54), finishing first and second respectively in the 200-yard freestyle. Fagen and Hackley would tally two more third-place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.14) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.67), respectively.
Hilfinger would record a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.50. Longan, along with his third-place relay finish, would earn third in the 50-yard backstroke (25.67) and then first in the 50-yard butterfly (24.01).
In the 50-yard breaststroke, Sheffield earned second with a time of 28.77, while Frech took third in the 50- yard freestyle (22.90) and second in the 100- yard freestyle(50.08).
Rounding out the individual top-three finishes, Arthur Frankel finished second in the 200- yard butterfly (2:12.22), and Patrick Unterreiner earned second in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:05.24.
In the meet's final event, the Tigers took second and third place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The relay team made up of Spencer Boyd, Longan, Hackley, and Frech took second place with a time of 1:30.07; Sheffield, Kellen Bachler, Jack Wheele, and Tim Douglas finished with a time of 1:33.89 to earn third.
The Tigers' next meet will be Friday, March 19, on the road against Wabash.
