Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - Mount St. Joseph used a six-run first inning to gain control early in an 8-2 win over seventh-ranked DePauw in the first game of a doubleheader. The second game was called due to rain in the top of the fourth.
The Lions loaded the bases in the first before Sarah Miller walked to plate the first run. Casey Branble singled home a run before Ali Lang made it 4-0 with a two-run single. Rachel Gabbard reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Bramble to score before Alehia Tucker doubled home Gabbard to push the lead to 6-0.
DePauw bounced back with a pair in the bottom of the first as Kate Geary led off with a double and Paige Price delivered a two-run homer.
The score remained 6-2 until the Lions scored one each in the sixth and seventh. Tucker led off the sixth with a double and came home on Elizabeth Ivers' double. Tucker doubled home Gabbard in the seventh for the final run.
Tucker collected four of Mount St. Joseph's 11 hits, while Ivers, Lang and Bramble added two each. Grace Smith had two of DePauw's seven hits.
Miller improved to 5-3, while Annika Garwood dropped to 1-2.
Mount St. Joseph took a 1-0 lead into the top of the fourth of the nightcap before a lightning delay and rains forced the game to be called.
DePauw returns to action on Friday, April 2, when it hosts Rose-Hulman at 5 p.m.
