DePauw Dominates Wittenberg in 4-1 Road Win

Box Score

Springfield, Ohio- The DePauw University men's soccer team swept its weekend series matchup against the Wittenberg University Tigers after beating its opponents 4-1 on the road.

DePauw put up a total of 23 shots in tonight's game against Wittenberg, 13 of which came in the first half.

In the first 25 minutes of play, both teams tried to find their rhythm and battled for possession of the ball. However, in the 28th minute, senior defender Eddie Velez used his speed and great footwork to get to the net and score, giving the DePauw Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Wittenberg turned up its offense throughout the remainder of the first half and managed to get fouled in the goalie box and capitalizing on a penalty kick to tie the game with 10 minutes left in the half.

Unwilling to have a repeat of the night before, DePauw pushed the Wittenberg Tigers' backline and earned a penalty kick of its own. Velez stepped up to the line and retained the lead for the DePauw Tigers just before halftime.

Up 2-1, DePauw continued to possess the ball in Wittenberg's half, leading to its third goal of the match by freshman forward Sam Thiel, who found the net after settling a pass from Jacob Fowler.

Although the DePauw Tigers were up by two goals with over 30 minutes left in regulation, they continued to keep the Wittenberg Tigers on its heels. DePauw's pressure eventually led to its fourth and final goal, a forced own goal by Wittenberg.

DePauw improves to 4-1-1 overall and faces Indy Eleven in an exhibition match on Tuesday, March 30, at 2 pm.
