Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw University men's soccer team came out on top in its 2-1 overtime victory over Wittenberg University.
The Wittenberg Tigers and the DePauw Tigers battled hard from the opening kickoff.
Unfortunately for DePauw, Wittenberg scored first and early in the first half. Playing down a goal, the Tigers fought for position getting five shots off before halftime.
In the second half, the DePauw Tigers managed to play most of the game in the Wittenberg half, outshooting its opponents 4-3 and forcing three corner kicks to Wittenberg's one.
DePauw answered with its own goal in the 62nd minute when Eddie Velez led Jack Schrepferman to the center of the box for the DePauw Tigers' tying goal.
At the end of regulation, with the game tied 1-1, emotions were high. DePauw, from the start, forced the ball into Wittenberg's half, pressuring the defensive line early in overtime.
In the 94th minute of play, the DePauw Tigers' offensive line pushed the ball up the left sideline, where Ryan Kupiec slipped the ball to Velez, who scored the golden goal, giving DePauw its third win of the spring season.
DePauw travels to Wittenberg on Sunday, March 28, with a game-time set for 5 pm.
