Box Score Greencastle, Ind. -The DePauw University men's soccer team moves to 2-0 for the season after beating the Wabash College Little Giants 1-0 at home.
For most of the first half of play, the Tigers and the Little Giants battled for possession in the midfield. Though DePauw didn't score in the first half, they outshot Wabash 4-to-1 forcing the Little Giants to play on the defensive.
Entering into the second half scoreless, the Tigers spread the field and attacked the Little Giants backline early.
The Wabash defense deflected a free-kick by senior defender Carlos Martinez; freshman Sam Thiel settled the Little Giants' clear and earned his first goal as a DePauw Tiger after his shot ricocheted off the left post into the back of the net.
With the Tigers up 1-0 with just under 30 minutes left in regulation, the Little Giants ramped up its offense, attacking the goal with every clear from their backfield.
In the second half of the match, Wabash would outshoot the Tigers 6-to-1; however, the defensive efforts by Ryan Kupiec and goalie Collin Davidson stifled any chance for the Little Giants to tie the game.
The Tigers' next game is set for Saturday, March 20, at 1 pm EDT at Marian (Ind.).
