Box Score Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw University men's basketball team extended its win streak to five games after beating Ohio Wesleyan University 89-56 at home.
The Tigers jumped ahead early, establishing a double-digit lead over the Battling Bishops by the 12-minute mark, and maintained that lead throughout the half.
Similar to the first matchup between the two teams, Ohio Wesleyan managed to tick away at DePauw's lead; however, by the end of the first half, the starting lineup combined for 29 of the 44 points, with the team shooting 53% from the field.
With a 13 point lead going into the second half of play, the Tigers made sure to return to the floor with the same energy they had at the end of the first.
Despite the Battling Bishops starting the half with the ball, DePauw found the bottom of the net first, draining a three-pointer after forcing Ohio Wesleyan to put up a bad shot on its defensive half.
The Tigers' presence in the paint both on the offensive and defensive end proved to be a problem for the Battling Bishops.
In the second half alone, DePauw put up 16 points in the paint and pulled down 12 defensive rebounds to Ohio Wesleyan's nine.
Defensively the Tigers moved with intention and speed, filling the lane when help was needed, causing the Battling Bishops to turn it over 11 times, resulting in 11 points on the other end.
Up 78-49 with over five minutes to play, DePauw's ability to either pull-up and shoot or attack the basket allowed them to extend its lead to as much as 38 points in a matter of two minutes.
The Tigers are back on the road next week to face the College of Wooster on Saturday, February 13, with the game set to start at 6 pm EST. Remember to check the calendar for all the links to stats and live streaming.
