Box Score Delaware, Ohio- The DePauw University men's basketball team beat Ohio Wesleyan University, 76-67, in their fourth win of the season.
Despite a slow start and early fouls during the first 10 minutes of play, the Tigers' experience on the floor became apparent. Thanks to the strength and methodical footwork in the paint by senior forwards Josh Hall and Nolan Ginther, DePauw established a sound lead over the Battling Bishops midway through the first half.
With the combination of shooting 50% from the field and going 6-7 at the line, the Tigers quickly stretched their lead to double digits. By the five-minute mark, Ohio Wesleyan would find itself no longer in striking distance with a deficit of 13 points.
Although down by 11 at halftime, Ohio Wesleyan came out of the locker room ready to play in the second half, holding DePauw to six points in the first seven minutes of the half.
By the nine-minute mark, the Tigers' 11 point lead was cut to just three points, and the Battling Bishops were unwilling to back down.
With Ginther in foul trouble, the dominance in the paint was cut in half, and DePauw had to rely on Nick Felke's ability to dish and shoot.
Fortunately for the Tigers, consistent defensive rebounding and some energy off the bench from both Nolan Niego and Grant Niego gave DePauw the lift they needed to maintain the lead DePauw held since midway through the first half.
Thanks to some late free throws and penetrating plays to the basket in the final minutes of the game, the Tigers' stifled every Ohio Wesleyan attempt to cut the lead.
