Box Score Evansville, Ind. - DePauw held a 3-point lead at Division I Evansville in the opening three minutes of the second half, but the hosts put together a 15-4 run as they started to pull away from the Tigers on the way to a 69-58 win. DePauw dropped to 1-2 and Evansville improved to 2-2.
DePauw led most of the first half and held a 26-19 lead with just over seven minutes left. Evansville came right back with a 9-2 run to even the score at 28-28. The teams went back-and-forth over the final three minutes of the half before the Purple Aces' Jawaun Newton hit a 3-pointer with six seconds left to give the hosts a 36-35 lead at the break.
The Tigers held a 42-39 lead after Elijah Hales knocked in a 3-pointer with 16:42 left. Evansville scored the next seven to grab a 4-point lead at 46-42. The teams exchanged buckets before Nolan Niego's layup stopped the run and cut the Purple Aces' lead to 49-46.
A 10-2 Evansville run pushed its lead to 59-48 before the Tigers closed to within six on multiple occasions. Evansville's Shamar Givance hit a bucket and Evan Kuhlman followed with a three to extend the margin to double digits with 3:32 remaining and seal the victory.
Hales led the Tigers with 18 points followed by Grant Niego with 12 and Grant Gohamm and Nolan Niego with 10 apiece.
Kuhlman led all scorers with 23, while Newton followed with 15 and Givance and Noah Frederking had 11 each.
DePauw shot 49 percent from the floor including 51.7 percent in the first half, whlle the Purple Aces connected on 53.8 percent and hit 10 3-pointers. Evansville held a 29-23 rebounding edge.
The Tigers open North Coast Athletic Conference on Sunday, November 21, when they host Kenyon at 2 p.m.
