Box Score Oberlin, Ohio- The DePauw University field hockey team recorded its second shutout and its first North Coast Athletic Conference win in its 4-0 victory over Oberlin College.
The Tigers from the start played with dominance, attacking the Yeowomen's cage and firing five of its seven shots on goal.
In the second quarter, DePauw's aggressive offense finally paid off when a scramble in front of the goal resulted in Sarah Goff finding Maddie DeAscentis, who put in her third goal of the season.
At the start of the third quarter, the Tigers had held Oberlin to no shots and no penalty corners while maintaining a 1-0 lead. In the 42nd minute of play, a corner penalty taken by Christina Bourantas set up Maria Hewitt for a redirected goal to give DePauw a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers found their groove in the fourth quarter, putting up a total of 13 shots, bringing its game total to 33. In the 50th minute, Eva Nicholson collected a pass from Hewitt and scored, putting DePauw up by three. Seven minutes later, Amy Apfelbaum recorded her first career goal to put the Tigers up 4-0.
DePauw improves to 1-1 in NCAC play and faces Allegheny College tomorrow at 1 pm EDT.
