Box Score Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw University field hockey team dropped its first North Coast Athletic Conference matchup to the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops 0-3 at home.
The Battling Bishops got on the board early, aggressively attacking the Tigers' defensive line. Though DePauw finished the first quarter down 1-0, the Tigers allowed just three shots by the Battling Bishops and tallied two of its own.
The Tigers shut down the Battling Bishops' offense in the second quarter, outshooting Ohio Wesleyan 5-0 to finish with some momentum going into halftime.
However, following halftime, the Battling Bishops came out strong, scoring its second goal in the 33rd minute of play. DePauw did not have an answer across the final two quarters of play and was held to just one shot and one penalty corner across the second half.
The third and final goal by Ohio Wesleyan came with just seconds left in regulation after a scramble to the cage caught the Tigers off guard.
The Tigers move to 0-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play and travel to Oberlin for its next NCAC matchup on Saturday, October 9, at 11 am EDT.
