Tigers Make it Six Straight with Road Win

Box Score

Meadville, Pa. - DePauw totaled over 500 yards of offense and the Tigers scored the game's first 35 points on the way to a 38-14 North Coast Athletic Conference win at Allegheny. The Tigers moved to 6-1 overall and 6-0 in the NCAC, while the Gators dropped to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

The Tigers' defense recorded a three-and-out on the game's opening series and the offense took over on its own 31, but DePauw turned the ball over on downs at the Allegheny 5. DePauw forced another punt and this time converted it into a score as quarterback Chase Andries connected with Jaylon Smith for a 41-yard score on the fourth play of the drive.

DePauw's defense stopped the Gators on downs early in the second and the offense used 12 plays to cover 64 yards and take a 14-0 lead with 10:11 left in the half as Andries completed a 14-yard scoring pass to Trey Shaw

Andries and Shaw teamed again for a 13-yard score with 5:09 remaining in the half to push the lead to 21-0.

DePauw linebacker Daniel Rafeedie stopped the Gators' best scoring chance late in the half as he picked off Jack Johnson at the DePauw 22.

Gus Baumgartner picked up 23 yards on the first play of the second half before Andries connected with Gabe Quigley for 11 yards and Drew Moore rushed for eight. Andries then called his own number and ran it in for a 33-yard score to make it 28-0 just 1:37 into the third.

Baumgartner's 27-yard run with 5:45 remaining in the third pushed the lead to 35-0 before the Gators reached paydirt with 10:45 left in the fourth on Trevor Brncic's 33-yard pass to Moses Snell Jr.

Jack Drake wrapped up DePauw's scoring with a career-long 45-yard field goal with 6:09 left.

Brncic's 10-yard pass to Vaun Ross with 1:24 remaining were the game's final points.

Andries completed 22 of 33 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns with Shaw catching eight for 104 yards and two touchdowns and Smith totaling 97 yards on five grabs. Baumgartner topped the century mark for the second straight week with 105 yards on the ground.

Johnson completed 27 of 42 for 159 yards and Brncic was 10 of 13 for 137 yards. Ross hauled in 14 for 77 yards to lead the Gators.

Luke Marsh led the Tigers with nine tackles, while Jake Comer added eight and Liam Pooler seven. David Guhl and Ben Burger each recorded sacks for the Tigers. Hudson Alread led Allegheny with 10 tackles.

I chose DePauw because I wanted to continue my football career at a school that was competitive academically. The Monon Bell and Management Fellows Program were two factors that drew me into DePauw. What also interested me was the opportunity athletes had to join Greek life which showed me the social environment someone is provided with when attending DePauw. Internship and study abroad opportunities during J term and the spring were intriguing as well.
