Tigers Topped by Big Red in 64-65 Loss

Box Score

Granville, Ohio- The DePauw University men's basketball team falls 64-65 on the road in a back-and-forth matchup against Denison University.

DePauw would jump in front fast and early, never giving up the lead in the first half. Shooting just under 50% from the field and capitalizing offensively with 10 points off of the Big Red's six turnovers, the Tigers looked confident.

Despite being outrebounded 20-12 in the first half, DePauw kept control of the ball for the majority of the half, pulling in 10 defensive rebounds and turning the ball over just three times before halftime.

Up by five at halftime, Nolan Ginther, who already had 13 points, would go on a 7-0 run to open the second half. Getting the lead up by as many as 12 points, DePauw was hitting its stride until the Big Red's Jack Coulter began draining threes to put Denison within three with 14:50 left in the game.

From then on, the Tigers and the Big Red would trade baskets and remain neck and neck statistically. Both teams would find success in the paint, with DePauw scoring 18 and Denison putting in 16 points of its own.

Off the bench, each team got a four-point boost, but with time winding down in regulation, late forced turnovers and quick stops by Denison would lead to the first of two ties with less than a minute left in the game. With the score tied at 63, Ginther would give the Tigers a one-point lead after making his second of two free throws.

Unfortunately for DePauw, a well-played layup by the Big Red and a late tip-in attempt by the Tigers would ultimately give Denison the win at the end of regulation.

DePauw moves to 10-7 in the NCAC and remains on the road to face the College of Wooster on Saturday, Feb. 22 for its final regular-season game. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
