Box Score Springfield, Ohio- The DePauw University men's basketball team fell to #7 Wittenberg University 59-90 on the road.
Winning the tip-off, Wittenberg scored first and put up eight points in the first three minutes of play. Answering Wittenberg's 8-0 run, Luke Steinhart drained a three to put the DePauw Tigers on the board.
That three would spark an offensive drive amongst the starters, helping DePauw take the lead not once but twice, with a little over 10 minutes left in the half.
Despite DePauw's efforts and the shooting success of Steinhart in the first half, the Wittenberg Tigers were relentless behind the arc, shooting 46.7 % in the first half and outscoring DePauw in the paint 22-6 in the key.
Down at the half 29-51, DePauw worked the paint and managed to outscore Wittenberg 18-14 in the key. Though the DePauw Tigers held its opponents to just 39 points, forced eight turnovers, and converted 11 points off of turnovers, the #7 Wittenberg Tigers would not let up.
Wittenberg's shots fell, and its bench helped bolster its lead, allowing it to swell to as large as 34 points, giving its leading scorers like Connor Seipel and James Johnson time to rest and return to the floor ready to create offense.
The DePauw Tigers move to 9-9 overall and 6-5 in the NCAC. DePauw returns to Neal Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 1, with tip-off set for 1 p.m.
