Tigers Shutout Spartans in 1-0 Victory

Box Score

Sept. 21, 2019 (Aurora, Ill.)- The DePauw University women's soccer team beat Aurora University 1-0 following a week-long break from games.

The Tigers, after having a week between games came out with fresh legs and a desire to score. Outshooting the Spartans 6-3 in the first half, it was clear from the very beginning that DePauw wanted to maintain control of the pace of the match.

Utilizing its speed and combination plays, DePauw kept the ball in Aurora's defensive half. At the 13-minute mark, the Tigers reaped the benefits of persistence, when Sophia Silcox dumped a ball to Jenna McCarroll who boots the ball from about 20 yards out.

Finding the top left corner of the net McCarroll beats the keepers reach and scores the deciding goal of the game.

Despite its efforts to get more looks on goal, big stops by the Spartans hindered many of the Tigers typical striking efforts.

Up 1-0 at the half, the Spartans came back with a vengeance looking to settle the score and earn its first win at home. Matching DePauw's seven shots on goal, the second half was played out more evenly between the two teams.

Fortunately for the Tigers, ability to effectively move the ball around field proved to be too much for Aurora, and with time running out maintained possession of the ball in the final minutes of play.

DePauw (4-4) return to Reavis Stadium to play Rose-Hulman on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.

Thinking about furthering my academic career I was looking for a liberal arts school that would provide me with high academics and the ability to push myself as well as better myself in a smaller environment.
