Tigers Shut Out Grizzlies in 3-0 Win

Sept. 10, 2019 (Franklin, Ind.)- The DePauw University women's soccer team recorded its first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the Franklin College Grizzlies.

Scoring off a long free-kick, the Tigers found success early. Settling the ball in the box, Jenna McCarroll passed the ball to Shaili Kumar who took on the last defender with a spin move and scored.

Up 1-0 in the six-minute mark, DePauw contained the Grizzlies in its defensive half for the majority of the first half, resulting in outshooting Franklin 10-1.

In the second half, it was more of the same dominance seen in the first. At the 55 minute mark, the Tigers fought its way to through the defense to win a corner kick on the left side of the field.

Alex Berkley would place the ball on the right side of the box and headed in by Zoie Obst to increase DePauw's lead to 2.

Utilizing its speed and passing ability the Tigers found itself in a comfortable lead with 13 minutes left in the game. Alex Wendt dropped the ball back to forward Kate Cowger who then chipped the ball just over the keeper's hands to find the top left corner of the net.

DePauw's 3-0 victory improves its record to 2-3, a win that will surely catapult its play into this weekend's DePauw Challenge Cup. The Tigers face Washington University (Mo.) on day one of the tournament at 11:30 a.m.
