DePauw Stays Alive in NCAA Regional

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Greencastle, Ind. - After suffering a 17-4 winner's bracket loss to Trine earlier in the day, DePauw stayed alive in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship with a 2-1 elimination game win over Maryville (Tenn.). The 33-13 Tigers face 32-6 Trine tomorrow at Noon and, with a win, can force the if necessary game that would follow. Complete information is available through the regional site

Maryville got out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first as Alexus Murray led off with a single and moved to third after a failed pickoff attempt at first. Reid Ballard then delivered a two-out double scoring Murray.

The Tigers left five on base in the first three innings including three in the second. Becca St. Germain led off the fifth with a single and moved to second on Kaylyn Linder's bunt single. Sidney Holler singled to load the based before Jordyn Fera ripped a two-run double to left.

Linder had four of DePauw's nine hits, while Murray and Ballard each had two of the Scots' six hits.

Cami Henry improved to 18-7 and struck out nine, while Katlyn Smith dropped to 22-5. Maryville finished its season at 29-11.

In the Trine game, Grace Smith's RBI grounder in the first scored Linder and gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Thunder evened the score in the third on Lexi Clark's solo homer down the right field line.

Lainey McCue's three-run homer in the fourth made it 4-1 before Taylor Murdock singled home Makenna Hartline in the fifth and McCue clubbed a two-run blast in the fifth to push the lead to 7-1.

Abey Bass singled home Fera in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-2, but Trine plated 10 in the seventh including McCue's third homer of the contest.
