Tigers Earn Split at Transylvania in Final Tuneup for NCAC Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lexington, Ky. - After dropping the first game of its doubleheader at Transylvania by a 6-1 score, 25th-ranked DePauw came back for a 7-5 win in the second game. The Tigers are now 28-12, while the Pioneers are 25-11.

Abey Bass delivered a two-out, two-run double in the top of the ninth to lift DePauw to the win in the nightcap. The game-winning hit was set up with Grace Smith reaching on a catcher's interference and moving to second on a passed ball before Paige Price was hit by a pitch and Jordyn Fera walked.

Transylvania scored one in the first before DePauw took the lead with two in the second and the hosts evened the count with one in the fourth. Meghan Gonzalez doubled home Smirh in the fifth before Fera reached on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt that plated Sarah Beischer. Bass drove in Jade Mejia Wick with a bunt single later in the frame to give the Tigers a 5-2 lead.

A wild pitch after a walk in the bottom of the fifth allowed Brittany Mumford to score and the Pioneers forced extra innings in the seventh on back-to-back RBI doubles from Meg Liter and Annie Schuck.

Kaylyn Linder, Mejia Wick, Bass and Becca St. Germain each had two of DePauw's 11 hits, while Shelby Gambrell had two of Transylvania's six hits.

Cami Henry improved to 15-6 and struck out 15 in the complete game win, while Kameron Bowling dropped to 15-6.

In the opener, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second as Smith singled and later scored on Mejia Wick's triple. The Pioneers, however scored three in the second, two in the third and one in the sixth.

Smith had two of DePauw's five hits with Mumford collecting three of Transylvania's 11 hits.

Mac Jones dropped to 2-4 with the loss with Bowling improving to 15-5.

DePauw hosts the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament this weekend and opens play on Friday, May 3, against Kenyon at 12:30 p.m. More information on the tournament is available here.

I chose DePauw because I wanted a school that would fit me well both academically and athletically. DePauw gives me the competive atmosphere and challending academics, while allowing me to continue to play softball at the next level. With DePauw being a smaller school with a great reputation for their academics, I knew it was the place for me.
