Tigers Win Three; First Team to Go 16-0 in NCAC

Gambier, Ohio - DePauw became the first school in North Coast Athletic Conference softball history to post a perfect 16-0 record in conference play after winning three games today. The Tigers resumed yesterday's halted game with Oberlin to take an 8-5 victory before sweeping a doubleheader from Kenyon by 2-0 and 8-0 scores. The 25th-ranked Tigers improved to 27-11 overall with the wins.

In the Oberlin game, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first as Sidney Holler's grounder scored Kate Geary. The Tigers expanded the lead to 5-0 in the third on Holler's sacrifice fly, Caleigh Cramer's RBI single and a two-run double by Meghan Gonzalez.

Emma Downing's RBI double in the fifth put the Yeowomen on the board, but DePauw countered in the bottom of the inning as Holler doubled home Sarah Beischer before Paige Price scored after a throwing error as Jade Mejia Wick stole second. DePauw expanded its lead to 8-1 in the sixth as Mejia Wick singled home Beischer.

Oberlin scored four unearned runs in the seventh before the Tigers got out of the jam and claimed the victory.

Beischer, Mejia Wick and Gonzalez each had two of DePauw's 11 hits, while Caley Dunlop led Oberlin with three of its eight hits. 

Devin Pieper improved to 1-0 with the win, while Hannah Rasmussen dropped to 4-11.

In the first Kenyon game, Julia Bork tossed a three-hit shutout and improved to 3-2. The Tigers scored single runs in the second and fifth innings. In the second, Holler led off with a single and pinch-runner Chase Epp scored on Gracce Smith's ground out that included an error.

In the fifth Ali Dierks hit a solo homer to wrap up the scoring.

Holler and Abey Bass each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while three different Ladies has one hit apiece. Keely Sweet dropped to 0-2.

In the second Kenyon game, Riley Magoon tossed 4 2/3 innings of no-hit ball before the hosts collected their only hit of the game. The Tigers scored five in the third as Dierks reached on an error that plated Beischer before Geary singled home Kaylyn Linder. Smith's two-run single made it 5-0.

DePauw then tallied one each on the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Skylar Barnett's grounder in the fourth scored Beischer while Price scored in the fifth when Mejia Wick reached on an error. Bass grounded out in the sixth to score Linder with the Tigers' final run and after Cami Henry struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth the game ended due to the eight-run rule.

Six different Tigers collected one hit apiece, while Nicole Bishay had Kenyon's lone hit.

Magoon improved to 6-0, while Tori Rogers dropped to 1-3.

The Tigers travel to Transylvania on Tuesday, April 30, for a 5 p.m. doubleheader before hosting the NCAC Tournament on May 3-4.
