25th-Ranked DePauw Blanks Millikin in Nightcap for Doubleheader Split

Decatur, Ill. - After falling to Millikin, 6-5 in nine innings in game one, 25th-ranked DePauw picked up a doubleheader split with an 8-0 win in five innings in the second game. DePauw is now 23-11 on the season, while the Big Blue are 24-10.

In the opener DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the first when Skylar Barnett led off with a double and pinch-runner Chase Epp move to third on Kate Geary's single. Epp then scored after a throwing error on an attempted pickoff.

Millikin countered with two runs in the first and three in the second to take a 5-1 lead. Jordyn Fera's third-inning single scored Geary before Becca St. Germain doubled home Grace Smith in the fourth and Geary reached on an error that plated Sarah Beischer.

The Tigers evened the score at 5-5 in the fifth after Sidney Holler's single plated Paige Price.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when Millikin's Bailey Gowin reached on catcher's interference and moved to second on Kalli Farmer's single. Maggie Comerford then delivered the game-winning single up the middle.

Geary, Jade Mejia Wick and St. Germain each had two of DePauw's 11 hits. Farmer and Comerford each had three of the Big Blue's 11 hits with Taylor Jordan adding two.

Aly Armstrong improved to 8-2, while Julia Bork dropped to 2-2.

In the second game, the Tigers scored four each in the third and the fifth for the victory. Barnett reached on a fielder's choice in the third that allowed Beischer to score. Geary then drove in Kaylyn Linder with a bunt and an error on the play allowed Alyssa Nowak to score. Holler's grounder scored Geary and gave the Tigers a 4-0 advantage.

Mac Jones doubled home Epp in the fifth before Megan Gonzalez hammered a three-run homer with two outs in the frame.

Smith had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Farmer had Millikin's lone hit.

Cami Henry improved to 13-6,while Gracie Brookens dropped to 5-3.

DePauw hosts Oberlin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
