DePauw Sweeps Wittenberg after Rallying for Game One Win

Springfield, Ohio - DePauw overcame a 3-1 deficit in the seventh inning of game one at Wittenberg and won, 5-3, before completing the sweep with a 7-2 victory in the nightcap. The visiting Tigers moved to 22-10 overall and 12-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the hosts dropped to 8-24 overall and 3-9 in conference play.

In the opener, Kaylyn Linder reached on an error in the second before stealing second and third. An error on her steal of third allowed her to score and give DePauw a 1-0 lead. Wittenberg took a 3-1 lead in the third as Lauren Buelow led off with a double and moved to third when Elise Freeland reached on an error. Aubrie Stillings followed with a bunt single that loaded the bases before Megan Niswonger delivered a two-run single.

Linder led off the DePauw seventh with a bunt single before moving to second when Sidney Holler reached on an error. Alyssa Nowak reached on a fielder's choice that forced pinch-runner Chase Epp at second. Grace Smith drove in Linder with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Abey Bass followed with a single that scored Nowak and tied the the score at 3-3. Kate Geary's bunt single plated Smith and gave the Tigers a 4-3 advantage before Jade Mejia Wick singled home Bass.

Smith and Bass each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while five different Wittenberg players collected one hit apiece. 

Riley Magoon improved to 5-0 with the complete game win, while Katelyn Niswonger dropped to 5-15.

In the second game, DePauw scored all seven runs in the third. Sarah Beischer stole home for the game's first run before Caleigh Cramer drew a bases loaded walk. Mac Jones added a two-run single and Mejia Wick drove in two with a double. Beischer's run-scoring ground out wrapped up the scoring.

Wittenberg added single runs in the third and fifth.

Jones and Epp each had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Freeland, Missy Lee and Clara Andersen each had two of Wittenberg's eight hits.

Cami Henry took the win and improved to 12-6, while Katelyn Niswonger dropped to 5-16.

DePauw is scheduled to travel to Millikin on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. CDT doubleheader.
