Tigers Take Two from Wooster; Expand NCAC Lead

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw allowed just one run and six hits on the day and swept a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader from visiting Wooster by scores of 3-1 and 2-0. The Tigers improved to 20-10 overall and 10-0 in the NCAC, while the Fighting Scots dropped to 22-10 overall and 9-3 in the conference.

In the opener, DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the first as Abey Bass doubled with one out and scored on Becca St. Germain's single.

Wooster tied the game in the third when Emmalee Cooke drew a walk, moved to second on Kendall Lloyd's sacrifice bunt and scored when Molly Likins singled.

The Tigers countered in the bottom half of the frame as Kate Geary was hit by a pitch with one out and stole second before Jordyn Fera delivered a two-out RBI single to center.

DePauw added an insurance tally in the fifth as Bass walked with two outs and moved to third when Fera reached on an error. Alyssa Nowak entered as a pinch-runner for Fera and helped execute a double steal in which Bass scored.

DePauw totaled five hits and Wooster four as neither team had a player with more than one.

Cami Henry improved to 11-6 with the win in relief of Julia Bork, while Olivia Johnson dropped to 13-4 following the complete game.

In the second game, DePauw again scored in the opening inning as Grace Smith led off by reaching second on an error, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Kaylyn Linder's grounder.

The Tigers expanded the lead to 2-0 in the third as Nowak led off with a double, moved to third on Smith's sacrifice bunt and scored on Linder's squeeze bunt.

Nowak and Price each had two of DePauw's four hits, while Likins and Gabby Lakes had one each for Wooster.

Riley Magoon improved to 4-0 with the win in relief of Mac Jones, while Devin Pieper picked up her first save. Marissa Norgrove dropped to 6-5.

I chose DePauw because I wanted a school that would fit me well both academically and athletically. DePauw gives me the competive atmosphere and challending academics, while allowing me to continue to play softball at the next level. With DePauw being a smaller school with a great reputation for their academics, I knew it was the place for me.
