DePauw Drops Two to Bruins; Henry Strikes Out Record 18 in Second Game

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Newburg, Ore. - DePauw and George Fox competed in a doubleheader of extremes as the Bruins topped DePauw, 14-6, in a five-inning opener before the teams battled for 14 innings in the nightcap with the hosts taking a 5-4 victory. The Tigers dropped to 8-8, while George Fox improved to 13-9.

In the opener, the Bruins scored seven in the first and three in the second before the Tigers reached the board in the third with a single run and two more in the third on Sidney Holler's two-run homer.

The Bruins extended the lead to 13-3 with three more in the fourth. After DePauw scored three in the fifth, the Bruins ended the game with the run-rule by scoring a single run.

Ali Dierks, Jordyn Fera and Kaylyn Linder each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while Roni Braun and Allisa Yabumoto had two hits apiece for the Bruins who totaled nine.

Mac Jones took the loss and dropped to 2-3, while Ashley David moved to 4-6 with the win.

In game two, DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the third on Abey Bass' sacrifice fly before Kate Geary drove in two in the fourth with a single.

Yabumoto's sacrifice fly in the fourth trimmed the DePauw lead to 3-1. The Tigers were one out away from ending the game in the seventh, but Savannah Vargas forced extra innings with a two-run double.

The teams played another six scoreless innings before DePauw took the lead in the 14th. Geary singled with two outs and stole second before Jade Mejia Wick singled her home.

The lead was short-lived as Alyssa Gonzalez and Braun each hit solo homers for the win.

Holler had three of DePauw's 12 hits, while Geary, Mejia Wick and Bass had two each. Kim Ito had three of George Fox's 11 hits with Gonzalez and Allison Meyer adding two each.

Cami Henry dropped to 4-5 after striking out a school-record 18 in 13 1/3 innings. Sarah Storton moved to 1-0.

The 14-inning game marked the longest in DePauw history in terms of innings and the 18 strikeouts were also a DePauw single-game team record.

DePauw opens North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Kenyon.

I chose DePauw for its academic excellence, small and personal classes, beautiful and friendly campus, and because I wanted to be coached by Coach Hanrahan

I chose DePauw because I wanted a school that would fit me well both academically and athletically. DePauw gives me the competive atmosphere and challending academics, while allowing me to continue to play softball at the next level. With DePauw being a smaller school with a great reputation for their academics, I knew it was the place for me.
