Tigers Split First Two Games of Northwest Trip

Spokane, Wash. - DePauw opened its trip to the Northwest by splitting a doubleheader at Whitworth as the Tigers took game one by a 5-3 score and dropped the nightcap, 3-2. DePauw moved to 7-3 on the season, while the Pirates are now 17-4.

Whitworth took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first of the opener as Rheanne Lewis delivered a two-run single.

The Tigers responded with three in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead as Jordyn Fera put DePauw on the board with a double that scored Kaylyn Linder before Abey Bass singled home Fera. Becca St. Germain followed with a double that plated Bass and put the Tigers in front.

Bass drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth to score Jade Mejia Wick and give the Tigers a 4-2 advantage. Lewis trimmed the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth with a single that brought home Sara Gayer. 

Skylar Barnett's single in the seventh scored Ali Dierks and extended DePauw's lead to 5-3.

Fera and Mejia Wick each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while Lewis had three of the Pirates' six hits.

Cami Henry improved to 4-2 in the circle for the Tigers after striking out 11 in seven innings, while Madelyn Carlson dropped to 7-3.

Whitworth got out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the second game as Morgan Portlock's grounder scored Michelle Silva and Carlson's fielder's choice plated Lewis. Gayer singled home Kaylie Lowery in the third to make it 3-0.

The Tigers got on the board in the fifth as Sidney Holler doubled home Grace Smith and they added a second run in the seventh as Alyssa Nowak's single scored Linder. 

Seven different DePauw players collected one hit each and four different Pirates also had one hit apiece.

Mac Jones dropped to 2-1, while Drea Schwaier-Wolf improved to 10-1.

The Tigers travel to Pacific Lutheran for a Noon PDT doubleheader.
