Box Score Oberlin, Ohio- The DePauw University men's basketball team defeat the Yeomen of Oberlin College 80-67 to earn its first conference win of the season.
In the first six minutes of play, the Tigers shot a cool 4-4 behind the arc and completed a three-point play to take a commanding 15-7 lead.
Though the Yeomen would answer with a seven-point run of its own, DePauw maintained and extended its lead into halftime.
Up by double-digits at the half, the Tigers were determined to continue to dominate the floor. Despite some foul trouble midway through the second half, DePauw's bench stepped up, recording a total of 19 points between Aaron Shank (11) and Cooper Mixon (8).
The Tigers' finished the game with field goal percentage of 50 percent, which stifled every chance Oberlin had to gain momentum, even after cutting DePauw's lead to nine, the Tigers ball movement and step up jumpers quickly shut down its opponents.
By controlling the pace of the game and actively communicating on defense, and four players finishing with double-digit point totals, DePauw came out on top and earned its first conference win over the season.
The Tigers improve to 3-4 overall, and 1-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play. DePauw's next game is in Lexington, Ky. for the Don Lane Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. EST.
