Tigers Lose to Don Lane Classic Host Transylvania 75-74

Box Score

Lexington, Ky.- The DePauw University men's basketball team lost 75-74 to the Don Lane Classic host Transylvania University in a physically taxing matchup.

From tip-off, Transylvania quickly applied pressure to the Tigers, taking a two-point lead just 30 seconds into the game, showcasing its desire to control the pace of the matchup right away.

Maintaining his composure, DePauw point guard Nick Felke worked the ball up the court and answered with a three to take the lead.

Going back and forth with Transylvania in the first few minutes of the half, the Tigers put up five three-pointers and shot 100% from the line to pull away from Transylvania.

Despite being outshot 22-18 in the paint and shooting just 38% from the field for the half, Caymn Lutz, Aaron Shank, and Cooper Mixon's points off the bench kept the Tigers in the game.

Down by three at the half DePauw, stepped on the floor, ready to take back the momentum of the game.

Attacking the basket right away, Nolan Ginther tallied two free-throws to cut Transylvania's lead to two, jumpstarting the Tigers 13 to seven-point run to take back the lead and force its opponents to rework its game plan.

DePauw's second-half efforts kept them on top throughout the last five minutes of the match. Once again, the Tigers' 18 points from the bench outplayed Transylvania, with Mixon tallying seven of his career-high 16 points to help give DePauw a four-point cushion.

Although DePauw displayed a genuine team effort approach to the game with two starters and two off the bench in double figures, Transylvania managed to stop the Tigers when it counted the most.

Following the completion of the Don Lane Classic sophomore, forward Cooper Mixon was named to the All-Tournament team. Mixon completed the tournament with a total of 20 points, three rebounds, three assists, and just one turnover. DePauw moves to 3-6 for the season and travel to Earlham College on Saturday, Dec. 21. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. EST.
