Box Score Lexington, Ky.- The DePauw University men's basketball fall in day one of the Don Lane Classic 63-61 to the Albion Britons.
In the first ten minutes of play, the Tigers traded baskets with Britons, with neither team able to pull away from its opponents.
Fortunately for DePauw, the combination of Nick Felke and Josh Hall's scoring ability kept Albion on its heels throughout the half hitting 50% from the three-point line and combining for 17 points in the first half.
Along with Felke and Hall's offense, DePauw managed to outrebound the Britons 19-13 in the first half, while shutting down Albion's shooters around the arc.
Despite only shooting 34% from the field, DePauw's ability to attack deep into the paint and draw fouls gave the Tigers a leg up on its opponents. Going 10-13 at the line, DePauw capitalized on Briton's fouling, while giving up just five free throws in the half.
Leading at the half by four DePauw and Albion started the second half similar to the beginning of the game. At the 14 minute mark, the Britons would take the lead and pick up the pace of the game.
Unfortunately, this second wind by Albion knocked the Tigers off course and led to an overwhelming advantage inside the key. Compared to the first half the Britons managed to put up 20 more points in the paint, while DePauw only recorded 10.
In the final five minutes of play, it was anyone's game; however, Albion put up a big three to go up by three with just 11 seconds left in the game. Giving the Britons an advantage over the Tigers, with too little time left for DePauw to recover.
DePauw moves to 3-4 overall and faces host team Transylvania University tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 1 pm.
