DePauw Tops Wabash in Home Opener

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw won 10 of the individual events and topped rival Wabash by a 169-128 score at Erdmann Natatorium.

After Wabash opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:36.79), the Tigers quickly gained control with 1-2-3 finishes in the next two and a win in the next. Tommy Hackley won the 1000 freestyle (10:11.83) followed by Charlie Stewart-Bates in the 200 free (1:47.13) and Seth Fagen in the 100 backstroke (54.24).

The Little Giants' Wesley Slaughter stopped the run with a victory in the 100 breaststroke (58.63) before the Tigers' Ian Longan touched first 200 butterfly (1:59.99) with Jake Frech winning the 50 free (22.21).

Wabash outscored DePauw, 15-4, in one-meter diving with Tanner Carver earning the win with 215.25 points before Slaughter topped the field in the 100 free (46.92).

Fagen came back with a second win in the 200 back (1:58.48) before Patrick Unterreiner led the way in the 200 breast (2:14.09) and Stewart-Bates earned a second win in the 500 free (4:55.22). Longan also followed with a second victory in the 100 fly (52.43). 

Carver completed a diving sweep for the Little Giants with a 186.40 score on the three-meter board with Unterreiner winning again in the 200 individual medley (2:02.27). Wabash wrapped up the meet with a 400 free relay win  (3:12.30).

DePauw returns to action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. meet against Bethel (Ind.) and Indiana Wesleyan in Elkhart, Ind.
