Tigers Show Grit in 7-1 Loss to No.15 Colonels

Box Score

Oct. 6, 2019- The DePauw University field hockey team showed grit till the end as it took on the No.15 Centre College Colonels in a 7-1 loss on Sunday.

The Tigers approached its second nationally-ranked opponent of the season with both energy and composure despite the outcome.

Unlike Centre's previous opponents, DePauw managed to get seven shots off, when, on average, the Colonels hold its opposing team to just 3.3 shots a game.

Gretchen Bechthold scored the lone goal for the Tigers, after collecting a rebounded shot by Maddi Little putting the score 3-1 in the second period.

Though DePauw scored only once in the matchup, the Tigers are just one of four other teams not to get shutout by Centre this season.

Defensively the Tigers put up a fight. Splitting time in goal with Allie Duranceau, who made eight saves in the first half, was Christina Bourantas. Bourantas played aggressively in the cage and recorded nine saves of her own.

With this game against Centre College, DePauw begins a short stretch of home conference matchups. The Tigers' next game is Saturday, Oct. 12, at noon against Oberlin College, and play again on Sunday, Oct. 13, against Allegheny at noon.
