Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw overcame a 17-14 halftime deficit with 17 unanswered points and came away with a 31-26 Old Gold Day and North Coast Athletic Conference win over visiting College of Wooster. The Tigers improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while the Fighting Scots dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in NCAC play.

Wooster quarterback Mateo Renteria found Cole Hissong down the right sideline on the game's first offensive play and Hissong outran the Tigers' defense for a 75-yard touchdown just 25 seconds into the game.

The Tigers drove to the Fighting Scots' 20 on their first series, but quarterback Chase Andries was hit by Christian Santos while throwing and Wooster's D'Andre Brown came up with the interception and returned it to the Wooster 34. Wooster couldn't capitalize as Lake Barrett came up short on a 46-yard field goal try. The Tigers, however, responded  as Andries connected with Ethan Hudson for a 31-yard gain on third down and, two players later, the duo teamed for a 27-yard score to even the count at 7-7 with 2:41 left in the first.

Wooster regained the lead early in the second on Troy Baughman's 10-yard run that capped a 16-play, 75-yard series. Liam Pooler's 38-yard return on the ensuing kickoff led to a 2-yard run and score by Noah Jones to make it 14-14 with 5:35 remaining in the half. Barrett gave the Fighting Scots a 17-14 advantage with a 42-yard field goal with 23 seconds left in the half.

Andries put DePauw ahead for good with a 28-yard pass to Jarrod Stiver with 6:49 remaining in the third. On the previous play, the Tigers converted a third down with Andries completing a 16-yard pass to Gavin Ritter.

Jack Drake's career-long 42-yard field goal just 14 seconds into the fourth made it 24-17 and was set up by a 62-yard pass from Andries to Hudson.

Following a Wooster punt, DePauw put together a 12-play, 72-yard series capped by Andries' 10-yard run with 6:16 left on third-and-three which extended the Tigers' lead to 31-17. The possession included three third-down conversions.

On its next possession, Wooster drove to the DePauw 2, but two runs, each for no gain, preceded a pair of incomplete passes and gave the ball back to the Tigers with 2:27 left. The Tigers were unable to pick up a first down and punter Ty Johnson ran out of the end zone for a safety to make it 31-19 with only 1:38 remaining. 

Following the free kick, Wooster started on its own 44 and drove to the 24 where Renteria and Hissong again teamed for a score with 32 seconds left. DePauw recovered the on-side kick and ran out the clock.

DePauw held a 403-393 edge in total offense including 123-49 on the ground and converted 8-of-12 third-down situations.

Andries completed 14 of 21 passes for 280 yards with two touchdowns and rushed for another score. Hudson hauled in three for 120 yards, while Stiver also caught three for 68. Jones led the rushing attack with 55 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown.

Renteria completed 24 of 38 for 344 yards and two touchdowns with seven going to Hissong for 182 yards and a pair of scores. 

Henry Locke and Jake Labus each totaled 10 tackles for the Tigers with Anthony Sansone leading with 2.0 sacks for 18 yards and Locke adding a 12-yard sack.

Dorion Talley paced Wooster with eight tackles with Santos and Brandon Holt each recording a sack.

DePauw travels to Hiram on Saturday, October 12, for a 1 p.m. NCAC contest against the Terriers.
