DePauw Drops Two in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, Colo. - DePauw slipped to 10-9 on the season following a pair of losses at the Colorado College Invitational. Randolph-Macon topped the Tigers 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-15), while the eighth-ranked hosts won 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-19). Randolph-Macon improved to 14-5 and Colorado College moved to 20-3.

In the Randolph-Macon match, the Tigers held a 22-21 lead in the second set, but the Yellow Jackets rattled off four straight points to grab a 2-0 match lead. DePauw led most of the third set on the way to trimming the deficit to 2-1, but Randolph-Macon used an 8-1 run to gain control of the fourth and final set.

Liv Hartman paced the Tigers with 15 kills and Morgan Stearley added 14 with Hartman hitting .286. Grace Filbrun led with 21 assists and Allie Frymire added 20, while Jenna Purichia led with 13 digs and Corri Rusk with two total blocks. Grace Parker paced the Yellow Jackets with 14 kills and three of the team's eight aces. 

Randolph-Macon outhit the Tigers, .281-.224 with a 59-52 edge in kills.

Against Colorado College, DePauw got out to a 6-2 lead in the opening set before the host Tigers scored five straight. DePauw closed the first set gap to 22-21, but Colorado College won three of the final four points. The Tigers stayed close early in the second set before the hosts put together a 9-2 run to gain control and DePauw never led in the third and deciding set.

Stearley and Jessica Levy each had six kills in the loss with Filbrun recording 16 assists and Kaylee Nichols a pair of aces. Stearley paced the defense with 11 digs, while Hartman and Meaghan Etling each recorded three block assists. Haley Harris paced Colorado College with 11 kills and three aces.

Colorado College outhit DePauw, .384-.137 with a 48-31 edge in kills.

DePauw wraps up the weekend with an 11 a.m. MDT match tomorrow at Johnson & Wales University in Denver.
