DePauw Collects Third Win in Last Four Games with 21-7 Victory at Hiram

Hiram, Ohio - Host Hiram scored on the opening drive of the game, but DePauw shut out the Terriers the rest of the way and came away with a 21-7 North Coast Athletic Conference victory. DePauw improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the NCAC, while Hiram dropped to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Hiram's Xavier Reyero connected with Myles Hymes for a 42-yard pass play on the game's first play from scrimmage to set up Jacquarias Waller's 10-yard touchdown run just 4:27 into the contest which gave the hosts a 7-0 lead. Tje drive was kept alive after the Terriers converted on fourth-and-four from the DePauw 27.

The Tigers drove to the Hiram 2 on the following possession, but couldn't punch it in and turned the ball over on downs. 

Following a short Hiram punt, DePauw started its next drive in Terriers' territory, but Jack Drake's 33-yard field goal attempt early in the second missed to the right. After another defensive stop and a short Hiram punt, DePauw drove to the Hiram 3 before Tigers' quarterback Chase Andries was picked off by Tyler Swearingen on third down.

DePauw evened the score on its next series as Andries connected with Blake Podschlne for a 13-yard score with 3:44 left in the half. Later in the quarter, DePauw's Dylan Hyatt ended a Hiram threat with an interception at the Tigers' 10 and a return of 45 yards.

The Tigers took the lead for good early in the third on a 4-yard run by Noah Jones which came on the play following an Andries 32-yard run. The drive was aided by a Hiram roughing the passer penalty on third down from the DePauw 33.

The teams exchanged punts before DePauw stopped Hiram on a fourth-and-five near midfield. Andries later teamed with Podschlne for a 40-yard score to push the DePauw lead to 21-7 with 3:53 remaining in the third.

DePauw's defense came up big again on the next possession as Hiram drove to the DePauw 20 before being stopped on downs. Brody Gude ended the next Hiram drive with an interception near midfeld with 9:24 left before Hiram turned the ball over on downs on its final two series.

DePauw outgained Hiram, 386-310, including 141-56 on the ground. The Tigers also held a 25-16 edge in first downs and possessed the ball for 38:57.

Andries completed 23 of 32 passes for 234 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Will Harris and Ethan Hudson each caught five with Jones totaling four and Podschlne three including two for scores. Jones and Jarrod Stiver each rushed for 58 yards in the win.

Reyero completed 17 of 44 passes for 200 yards with two interceptions, while Collin McNamara completed 3 of 6 for 54 yards. Hymes had six catches for 111 yards with Jaris Foreman finishing with five for 49. Waller rushed for 26 yards and Malcolm Rogers chipped in 23.

Nathan Seifert and Henry Locke led the defense with six tackles each with Evens Cribs adding five. Tristan Hofmeister had the Tigers' lone sack.

Delanoe Harris paced Hiram with 17 tackles and Horace Johnson followed with 14. Johnson and Isaiah Davilla each had one sack.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, October 19, when it travels to Ohio Wesleyan for a 2 p.m. contest.
