Saturday Sweep Gives DePauw a Weekend Split

Whitewater, Wis. - DePauw evened its record at 2-2 following a sweep of Wisconsin-Platteville and Wisconsin-Whitewater at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational. 

The Tigers blanked Platteville 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-15) as Morgan Stearley led with 15 kills and a .682 hitting percentage. Ally Low assisted on 35 of DePauw's 43 kills, while Kaylee Nichols had four of the team's six aces. Jenna Purichia recorded 13 digs and Meaghan Etling had three blocks.

DePauw outhit the Pioneers .356-.022 and held a 43-21 edge in kills. The Tigers maintained a 41-31 advantage in digs and a 5-2 edge in team blocks.

In handing the host Warhawks their first loss in four matches this season, DePauw dropped the first set 25-23, but rallied with three straight set wins of 25-23, 25-21, 25-12.

Stearley and Suzanne Peters each had 15 kills in the win, while Low assisted on 38 of the Tigers' 50 kills. Etling had two of DePauw's four aces with Peters totaling 15 digs. Corri Rusk led with five blocks including three solos.

DePauw outhit the hosts, .248-.111 and had a 50-47 edge in kills. The Tigers also led in digs 68-54 and held a 9.0-5.0 advantage in team blocks.

Peters was named to the all-tournament team.

The 2-2 Tigers return to the court on Friday, September 7, for the first of two days of a tournament at Bluffton.
