Tigers Drop Opening Two Matches at UW-Whitewater

Whitewater, Wis. - After dropping a 3-0 decision to Minnesota-Morris (24-26, 28-30, 13-25) in the season-opening match at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Inivtational, the Tigers were unable to hold a 2-0 lead against Coe and lost by a 3-2 count (29-27, 25-22, 21-25, 21-25, 13-15).

In the Minnesota-Morris match, Suzanne Peters and Morgan Stearley each had 10 kills, but the Tigers hit just .102 to the Cougars' .322. Ally Low led DePauw with 25 assists, while Stearley had two aces and Kaylee Nichols nine digs. 

Peters led the Tigers with 30 kills and a .359 hitting percentage against Coe, while Low recorded 56 assists and Nichols four aces. Stearley topped the squad with 25 digs and followed with 15 kills, while Corri Rusk added four blocks including one solo.

In an evenly-matched contest, DePauw hit .284 to Coe's .293 and each team totaled 78 digs. The Kohawks had a 73-70 edge in kills and DePauw finished with a 6-5 advantage in blocks.

In the opening match, Peters became the 12th player in DePauw history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau and now has 1,035.

DePauw faces Wisconin-Platteville and Wisconsin-Whitewater tomorrow.
