Burguete and Voelz Earn All-America Honors

La Crosse, Wis. - Polo Burguete and Samuel Voelz wrapped up the 2018 season by earning all-America honors at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships.

Burguete opened the day for the Tigers with a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:08.37. The recent DePauw graduate led with one lap remaining before Central College's Mark Fairley took the lead in the back stretch and won in 9:04.50. The runner-up finish was the best in a running event by any DePauw male at the national championships and the all-America finish was the first by a DePauw runner in the steeplechase since Simon Flory finished eighth in 2004.

Voelz, a rising sophomore, then capped off the Tigers' performances with a fourth-place showing in the 800 meters in 1:51.22. Andrew Sharp of Greenville won in 1:50.06. Voelz became the first DePauw runner to earn all-America honors in the 800-meter run.

As a team, the Tigers totaled 13 points and finished in a tie for 21st.
